Information...

The band formed in September 2001, and was off to a flying start when immediately selected as joint winners of the HITZ-FM "Exposure" songwriting competition. Following this auspicious beginning, Liminal has steadily gained recognition in the band's hometown of Melbourne, Australia, collecting devoted fans along the way. Whilst the band's first love is live performance, the members of Liminal make a point of focussing their attention towards painstakingly crafting, arranging and refining their original songs. The band members take the time to ensure that each song truly encapsulates their intent, in an uncluttered, meaningful, dynamic manner.

One particular song that has garnered a great deal of attention and praise is Galaxy, a fast-paced, pop-tinged track which was included on the Girl 2 compilation CD, released in June of 2002. Respected music journalist Clem Bastow described the song's musical strengths as "something of a lost art", high praise indeed. The success of this recording led to airplay on community-based radio stations, several features on the channel 31 television show "Russ Kellett's Melbourne", and well-received performances at some of Melbourne's finest venues.

One such venue is Melbourne icon, the Esplanade Hotel. A review of Liminal's first ever performance at this greatly beloved venue described the band's unique sound a "a change of mood... topped off with some impressive call and response vocals" (Neil Wedd, July 17 '02, Inpress magazine).

In July of 2004, Liminal were fortunate to gain funding from Arts Victoria, for a three-track demo recording. Liminal took the time to make this recording as good as possible... and the results surpassed expectations! A number of exceptional Melbourne musos lent their services to the project, including Anna Struth, vocalist extraordinaire of Tempted, Melisa Collins, violinist with The Restless (surely one of the best violinists in the country) and the fabulous Dom Italiano on guitar.
These contributions helped to make the recording something truly special.

So what is currently happening in the world of Liminal? Well, Liminal's lineup has recently undergone some dramatic changes. A bit like life, really. The new lineup consists of Corinna on vocals, Stephen on guitar, Neal on drums and Mike on bass. Che has decided to take a break from bass, due to his exhausting work commitments, but is sometimes able to make a guest appearance. The band's career is starting to gain momentum, with publicity and worldwide airplay generated by the Payola1 CD, released by Queensland-based Smashed Records in March of 2006. It's taken a long time... but the band is now starting to benefit from the time and effort they have put in to their art. The members of Liminal are grateful for all the support they have received to date.

As always, the members of Liminal look forward to their continuing musical adventures with curiosity, optimism and energy.
